- Reading Natsume Yuujinchou! Parts of this series make me very nostalgic for old school Holic. ): But that's okay, really, because I liked old school Holic! The whole thing is very...soothing? Yes. Normally I love stories that I can sink my analytical teeth into (yes, my teeth are analytical, don't hate), but NY has this nice, chill, otherworldly vibe to it that's very relaxing. I think I have to be in the mood to read/watch it, though.
- The last Holic OAV. ...no, you know what? I'm not even gonna go there. If I do I'll just spend (another) an hour tearing my hair out and blubbering. (alksdfjasfd, DOUMEKI. D:)
- D. Gray-Man! I just started this series a little while ago and am now all caught up on the latest chapters and making my way through the anime. (Have noticed quite a bit of filler, heh.) Overall I really, really like it. Lavi's my favorite, not gonna lie. And I've got a soft spot in my heart for poor emo Crowley. xD I hear there's been some massively long hiatuses for this series which I, for one, am glad to have missed. Still, I can see where the breaks in narrative occurred. I'm not sure how I feel about the new art (I LOVED how the characters were drawn in the Ark arc) and the action leading to the last Big Flashback Sequence was a bit messy and rushed, imo, but I'm still really interested to see where this all goes.
- Pandora Hearts. I...I'm not sure I can say anything without breaking into AJSDFA'KSLD*OMG*JFA'SKLDJFASKJDF*SPOILER*ASLKDFALKSDFJ*SOB*ASKDJF;ASJDFASFD. I've decided to do a reread of PH starting very soon, though. :D There are still a lot of plot threads left dangling and I want to see if I can find them all.
- (PH continued) oh, and considering the events of the last chapter...does this mean ::spoiler:: will become a Duke? Yeah. Think about that. I'm not sure it would really be allowed to happen, all things considered, but...it's possible. And that's pretty mindblowing.
- Avatar the Last Airbender. I've been rewatching the series along with the Mark Reads/Watches site which has been great fun so far. The episode-a-day schedule is a bit slow, but worth it in the end. He starts Book 2 next week. *excited*
- Oofuri. I need to get caught back up. orz
- Reborn! *gigglesnort* Ah, KHR. Never change. Oh! Before I forget - What We Fought For by Metisket. Go read this right now. Run, do not walk. This fic is amazing. It's long, plotty, with great characterization and it has research notes. <3 The author calls it a real!mafia AU. I call it a freaking masterpiece. The story takes place just after Tsuna and Co return from the future. As the kids grow up, they find out that the mafia world, largely due to the Vongola's own growing power, has taken a step back from the flashy tactics of old. The Italian mafia no longer relies on flames, or rings, or high stakes battles - it has turned into the real world of Camorra clans. How does Tsuna deal with the real!mafia while still trying to protect his family? Seriously, this fic is amazing, check it out. And while you're at it, check out the author's other fics, too. She's amazing.

But Lavi is my heart and I'm waiting desperately for his backstory/wtf is going on with him. And his epic crush on Lenalee when he's not supposed to care at all breaks my heart in a really good way. I hate the current art though, the thing that gets me with it is that half of the time I can't even tell who is who. Is that supposed to be Allen? O_o WHO KNOWS? But she's been through an awful lot of changes and I'm just hoping she passes this phase soon.
On PH - he would be the most failboat duke ever. It's going to be interesting to see, but narg, I wish we hadn't gotten rid of every Nightray. Okay, yes, I miss Elliot, but VANESSA! How awesome would it have been to see more of her?

I still can't tell what exactly happened in the lead up to the Alma/Kanda storyline. (btw, Kanda's so not dead. he's going to come back for a Big Damn Heroes moment just like he did in the Ark arc and it will be awesome.)
Lavi! I totally agree with you about Lenalee. I thought I was seeing things at first because Lavi/Lenalee is so not the official couple of this series, but every time I turned a page Lavi was helping her up or protecting her or cradling her in Road's memory thing or running after her or remembering the first time he saw her as he was thinking he had lost his objectivity... There's definitely something there. And I think it's okay for 'Lavi' to have a crush or an appreciation for Lenalee because that's in his character. But Bookman Jr? That's a problem. And he knows it's a problem, but I also think he's in a serious state of conscious denial. Also? I want more backstory.
Yeah, the current art is...um. Yeah. There's a panel where Allen's all, "I'M ALLEN WALKER," and I'm like, "Sorry, sweetie, but no. And what is with those sidelocks, they are doing you no favors."
Vanessa! Total missed moment of awesome there. I would not have minded it at all if she had become a recurrent peripheral character, sigh. I still kind of can't believe JM killed off the entire Nightray family.

Lavi just breaks my heart. And yes, Lavi is completely allowed to have friends and crushes and the like, but Bookman Jr, not so much. I'm still holding out that he's actually the heart and that causes a whole load of complications. A Bookman with a heart? Who'd have thunk it?
His hair used to be so pretty too. I think somebody posted comparisons of the art and how it's changed at one point. In some ways I can see that it looks like she's trying to make lines cleaner and stuff, but yeurgh, when you can't tell one character from another or even tell what's going on, that's the point I wonder what the hell she's drinking.
Why couldn't she kill off somebody else I cared less about? D:

PH: I'm not sure we've seen the last of him. After all, why did Break go into the abyss in the first place? If Leo ever figures out how to get to White!Alice...well, Bad Things Will Happen but he might be able to bring Elliot back. We haven't seen White!Alice in a long time, she's due for an appearance.

It's true that it reminds a little about the early volumes of Holic - hearing that was what made me start reading it in the first place - and it definitely has a very relaxing and gentle atmoshpere to it. All the characters are so awkward and endearing, too.
Holic OAD? What Holic OAD?Ah, I know, that was just too depressing. I haven't even been able to watch it with subs yet, I know it will just break my heart all over again.... And PH, ugh. So cruel. I almost hate that I care so much for the characters in this series, it makes it so painful when things like that happens.

PH: after we saw that Reim had lived, I had a really bad feeling that whoever was in danger of dying next wasn't going to get a pass. ): Though it's funny because I had really thought Oscar was going to kick the bucket first...

Date: 2011-05-20 08:40 pm (UTC)I love the Natsume artwork, especially in the later volumes - it's so sketchy and flowing and fits the story perfectly. The art style in the anime is nice too, but rather different from the one in the manga.
I wonder if anyone besides Ohkawa got it. Wasn't there some interview a while ago where the CLAMP members were asked how they felt about the ending of Holic, and Mokona and Nekoi (I think) were both all "uh, actually we need to go back and reread it to understand what happened"? That pretty much says it all, I think. XD
I suspected that someone in the PH cast would die during the party too, given the ominous feeling that the preceding chapters had to them, but I never thought it would be Elliot. I mean, it was obvious that the things he said to Oz when they first met (about self-sacrificing, etc) would be of big importance at some point later on in the story, and I was half-expecting it to be in an ironical sense, but still.

Plus, LMAO Jack and his love interest. He clearly cares about her but is still so deeply Sparrowish. Sad lack of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly, though.
I plan to see Thor by myself tomorrow since no one else here wants to see it with me.
Also, maybe drop by Starbucks and start some fiction writing.
Memorial Day weekend is going by too quickly! And I still need to clean my apartment and do laundry. Although I plan to also put on some music and dance around my apartment while I CLEAN ALL THE THINGS.
