I finished Catching Fire yesterday! Talk about a cliffhanger...

I love Peeta. A lot. I'm also betting that after the revolution, Peeta will become some kind of leader - maybe even during the fighting, if things don't go horribly wrong.

And then there's the thing about his name.

Peeta could be a different way of saying pita, like the bread, which would make sense since he's the baker's son. But 'Peeta' is also how the name 'Peter' would sound in certain dialects. Peter, as in, 'the rock on which i will build my church.' Katniss gave a lot of descriptions of Peeta being steady and strong (he THROWS ROCKS) and dependable. She even went into a bunch of ruminations on how Peeta would be an excellent leader of men.

Collins is pretty clear in her foreshadowing and metaphors; you can tell right off the bat when things were gonna go wrong, from Rue to the decorated cookie Katniss, hm, what was it? Crushed to smitherins in her desperation to hold on to something while her world spun out of control. (i'm sorry, i had to laugh at that XD). Collins spent too much time building Peeta up as a leader in Katniss' and our eyes for it not to be significant in some way.

Now Katniss - she's interesting, definitely. I love how she's not boy crazy at all, doesn't want kids or marriage or anything like that. I kind of wanted to smack her over the back of her head during the Hunger Games when she kept pulling Peeta along, but it was understandable and mostly because I like Peeta a lot and I could see the crash looming in the distance. I love that she's more like me in some ways than other hyper-feminine main characters are in books.


The second book as a bit slower paced, but we learned a lot more about the world it's placed in, so it was a nice trade off, and second books usually deal more with world expansion anyway. I wish we could have seen a bit more during the tour, though. I can't wait to see District 13. :D

So yes, thank you so much for the rec! I can't wait for the third book to come out. :D

Yes! Collins has made it clear that Peeta has the gift to move crowds with his words, so he'll surely be one of the most important leaders during the rebellion~ I hope he doesn't get killed off though...is it just me, or has that been foreshadowed a lot as well?

Peeta always gets injured and things of that variety. I'm worried that book three will deliver the final blow. ;__; The only thing I dislike about Peeta is his obsessive love for Katniss. The poor boy says his life is meaningless if she's not in it, after all. So, either Peeta ends up with Katniss or he dies. I can't picture Katniss and Gale getting married while Peeta just accepts it. And something drastic will have to happen to make Katniss change her views on marriage, since she has enough difficulty understanding her feelings for the two boys as it is.

I wish everyone in the the series could have a happy ever after (I'm a sucker for those, what can I say?), but the ending will most likely be ambiguous.

And also, I never knew that was the meaning of "Peter"! Now I totally believe Peeta is an alternate pronounciation of the name. I learn new things every day! ;)

I will surely enjoy discussing the third book with you! That cliffie made me want to hunt down Collins and extract info about the final book by force. District 13 omgomg /spazzes out
