So I'm marathoning Avatar this morning. Not like I have anything better to do. *cough20pagepapercough*
As of writing this, I've seen up to episode 13 of the first season. For the record, I really like episode 13.
I love the sense of humor in this show, seriously. It's kiddish, but still somewhat dry at times.
Aang is such a goof. XD Which makes sense, because he really is just a kid. He just has such a delight in life. He likes having fun and that's fun to see. But the whole series is about how Aang has to grow to save the world, and I'm pretty sure he's going to have to lose at least some of that innocence along the way.
Sokka reminds me of Marco from Animorphs, actually. I love that he's smartass but also smart. It surprised me that when Katara stole the water scroll, he was the one who thought it was wrong. He's the man with the plan in the midst of all those crazy powered people. I think he could grow up to be a great strategist one day. In no way do I identify with him railing against superstition in the defense of logic. Not at all.
("...you have your father's wit." I kinda want to meet his dad now.)
Katara is interesting. She's practical and kindhearted but she can lose her temper too. So far she's the only girl, though I know others get introduced later. She's got doubts about her water bending abilities. She's got a kind of mother role, which I don't usually identify with, but I still think she's interesting even if she's not one of my favorites.
(oh god, watching 14 now, "Looks like someone had a pretty good bathroom break." "Yeah, when I was in there- " "I don't even want to know!" Um. XD )
Zuko. Oh my god, Zuko. I feel like such a cliche, liking the bad boy, but Zuko! I was spoiled for later seasons, so I know how his character arc ends up going. He is such a brat. He has MAJOR anger issues. He's a complete jerk. But he's redeemable, after episode 13, you can see that spark of redemption there. I love that he is such a melodramatic teenager. And I LOVE his uncle. I love his uncle a LOT.
("Angry boy and uncle lazy.")
All through episode 13, I was hoping that the masked dude was Zuko (was pretty sure that he was, but these was a small chance that it wasn't). Zuko and Aang worked together! They kicked ass!
("The fluffy bunny cloud forecasts doom and destruction.")
...woah. Okay, I'm on episode 15 now, with the bounty hunter (awesome!) and the friend of the dad. I kinda can't believe that Aang would hide the information from them. Damn. And another Aang/Zuko fight! :D Iroh is such a perv.
Episode 16. Haha, is that Zuko's disguise on one of the wanted posters? I freaking love the continuity in this show. Apa hiding behind the bush. :D The switching of the happy/sad masks.Aaaand, Katara is a healer. Somehow, I'm not surprised.
Ooo, episode 18. First off, Zuko is a vigilante! They call him the blue spirit. *cracks up* And Katara isn't allowed to waterbend because she's a girl. And the pirates are back. Oh. Hey, they're taking on the girl=healer stereotype. I'm impressed.
Heh heh. "Or just stay in your room and sit in the dark. Whatever makes you happy."
"-everyone's happy!"
"I'm not happy."
"You're never happy."
woah, Katara's actually forcing a fight? And since when is she this good?
Iroh is amazing. Amazing, amazing. And I love his relationship with his nephew.
Woo-hoo! Sokka got the girl. Sorta.
And that necklace traditon looks a lot more like a colar. And it's possible that that's the image they were going for. o_o I like this show.
Episode 19. Ha ha, Sokka trying to make the "Yip yip!" sound manly. XD
awwww! Oh, Iroh. *hands wave* And Zuko's not acting like an ass. Actually, it looks like Zuko is going more for the vigilante role again. That is never not awesome.
Saw the fiance thing coming a mile away, but I still loved Sokka's reaction.
Heh, talk about night and day. And Zuko got Aang.
Episode 20. ...it's a monkey.
Seriously, Zuko's the bad guy, but you still root for him. Then you remember that he's trying to kidnap Aang.
Oo, he mentioned his sister. I know some things about her. :\
Aw, crap. The mortal spirit is the princess.
Oh. Nevermind. It's the fish.
Hahaha, I love that panda. You tell that monkey.
Ooo, black and white with the flashes of red for fire. And her eyes are still blue.
What...the flying fuck is that?
Well, I was somewhat on the right track about the girl.
Awesome season finale. XD.
